"Step it Up" with us at Tanya Plibersek's office...
Dear CCBR Supporters,
Please come along next Tuesday when we "Step In" outside our MP's office.
As you are probably aware Penny Wong and Kevin Rudd have delayed announcing the 2020 targets prior to the international negotiations on Climate Change currently taking place in Poland.
The announcement is due to be made next week and now is the time for the community to send the message loud and clear that we want strong targets. While it seems that weak targets of 5 - 15% have previously been on the table, this delay means that 25 - 40% cannot be ruled out. The noise from the grassroots is beginning to make a difference!
CCBR have met with Minister Plibersek's staff recently to request that "2010 is Australia's peak emissions year" and "that the CPRS includes no concessions for major polluters" as well as requesting a target of greater than 50% by 2020.
Please join us outside Tanya's office next Tuesday in a peaceful fun-filled demonstration.
Minister Plibersek's office has been notified that we will be there, so let's do our bit on this national initiative.
When: Tuesday Dec 16. 11.45am for a 12.09pm start. Meet on Foveaux St. around the corner from Tanya's office
Where: Tanya Plibersek's office: 422 Crown St., Surry Hills NSW 2010
Duration: 12.09pm - 1.01pm (52 mins symbolising 52 weeks 'til the international negotiations in Copenhagen next year 12/09, whilst incorporating "Climate Change 101" for beginners!!)
Theme: water and floods
Bring along: snorkels, goggles, floaties, rubber-rings, flippers and a positive attitude. We'll provide the sandbags.
If you have the time... placards saying "Peak Carbon by 2010" "no concessions to polluters" would also be terrific as these back up the 2 major asks from the national Step It Up initiative (for more info see http://stepitupaustralia.wordpress.com/?s=)
So come along and be part of it. We plan to be strung along Crown Street, getting involved in a range of activities like conga lines sandbagging and aqua aerobics!!
We have let Tanya's office know that we are coming so it would be great to have a good turn out on the day.
If you are planning to come along please contact us so we can have an idea of numbers.
Any queries call Jenny on 9810 6846.
If you would have liked to, but can't make it please send your apologies by return email and we'll let Minister Plibersek know.
Hope you can make it,
cheers,
The CCBR team
