Last chance to convince Garnaut...
Dear CCBR Supporters,
The coming weeks will be vital in the Government's decision making on how Australia will respond to Climate Change. CCBR would like to encourage you all to get involved with one or all of the following to help our leaders make the right decisions.
For your information the time table is this:
The Garnaut Review is to be released 30.9.08. Government will then consider this and responses to the "Green Paper" before formulating the "White Paper" which is due to be released early December (date to be advised). Theis "White Paper" is the Australia's blueprint for reducing Green House Gas emissions. It is worth noting that at the same time government will be releasing 'Draft Exposure Legislation' that are new laws to support the new ETS.
Early December is also when Australia will be participating in the UNFCC talks in Poznan, Poland. (held in Bali last year) The process in building an international roadmap on response to Climate Change (next year in Copenhagen).
3 ways to act...
1. Sign this Avaaz / GetUp petition - 5 days to go....
"We have just a 5 day window to influence the final Garnaut climate change report – the report that looks likely to shape Rudd's climate policies for years to come...." go to http://www.avaaz.org/en/no_surrender_garnaut
2. Next Thursday morning join us in the CBD for some Climate Emergency fun....
To raise the profile of the issue in the public domain we are heading down to Martin Place at 7.45 next Thursday morning, Sept 25th. There will be red t-shirts to wear sporting 'Climate Emergency Service' on the back. Between 8am and 9am we (hopefully 20 - 40 people) will be moving sandbags (very light pretend ones) up and down Martin Place, - there will also be some polar bears present (if you've ever had a yen to wear one of those - this could be your chance!!).
We will also be leafleting for the Oct 2 protest in the CBD the following Thursday. See attached info.
This action will be legal, engaging and entertaining, so if you'd like to participate drop us an email.
3. Do a "Turn The Tide Kevin" Photo....
Here are some local examples of people supporting this campaign:
Peacock Point Balmain -neighbours and local tennis gals.
Check out the campaign at http://turnthetidekevin.blogspot.com/ . Take photo and send it in!
Lastly....
This week CCBR undersigned the attached letter to Garnaut from 49 climate action and environment advocacy groups.
It comments on 2 major points:
• 450ppm is not a reasonable target for a safe-climate future, nor is planning to overshoot 450ppm.
• Australia should not wait for an international agreement before acting.
have a good weekend
we might see some of you in Canberra supporting the Climate Protection Bill!
cheerio,
the CCBR team
