CCBR Newsflash #24 - 5.7.08

Newsflash – July 5, 2008
4 things you could do: an invite, a petition, a book and an action...

The invitation:
Climate Change Balmain-Rozelle invites you all to come along to...
the inaugral "Australian Climate Camp" - Newcastle, July 10-15 2008
a family friendly camp building the climate movement to promote rapid change towards zero emissions. 5 days of seminars, workshops and fun. A large human sign on Saturday and a peaceful community protest on the Sunday.
Members of CCBR will be heading along, call Jenny 0405 031 781.

The Petition:
Sunrise are trying to change means testing on solar panels...
Channel 7's Sunrise has finally set up a petition to get Kevin Rudd's Federal Labor to removed the $100K means test on solar panels.
Sign the Sunrise Petition (click here on Cool the Globe)
(This follows 7 Sunrise's 2006 campaign when they got 170,000 people to sign a petition to get the Solar rebate reinstated after the Howard government threaten to defund it.)

The Book:
Launch of 'Climate Code Red' this week...
This new book eloquently states the case for emergency action and offers solutions for how we are to achieve it...."the stark fact is that we face a global sustainability emergency. But it is impossible to design realistic solutions unless we first understand and accept the size of the problem. Climate Code Red is a sober, balanced analysis of this challenge, unadorned by political spin, proposing a realistic framework to tackle the emergency.' Ian Dunlop, former international oil, gas, and coal industry executive
Book launch Tuesday evening July 8, 6.30 at Gleebooks, Glebe. To reserve a place
For more info on the book click here

The Action:
"Come on Kevin - TURN THE TIDE - Peak Carbon by 2010"

Paint a banner with this message - take a photo of it with your local community: church, school, soccer team, evening class, mother's group, choir....wherever with whoever!!!
The TTT team will ensure your message gets to Kevin Rudd with 100s of others later in the year when he is deciding what measures to take on climate change.
For more info see the "How to" attachment

And of course if you don't want to do any of those things...
you could forward this email to anyone who you think would....
or you could have a look at this great video (wonderful in any language) 350 parts per million (while you are thinking about which one to do first!)

Lot's happening and lot's coming up
cheers,
The CCBR team
