CCBR Newsflash #17 - 16.11.07

Newsflash – November 17, 2007

2 Minutes of your time to help avert climate change
Petition to sign: http://www.greenpeace.org.au/sites/petition/coal/

Hi everyone,
As you all know Coal is our major contributer to Greenhouse Gas Emissions.
This week Australians have been named the highest emitters per capita in the world ( SMH Nov 15 p1).
Yesterday, GreenPeace entered the Munmorah [coal fired] Power Station, south of Newcastle and temporarily shut it down! (SMH Nov 16 p6)
They have set up a petition that we are urging you to sign, it says
"Dear New Prime Minister,
The only way we will avoid dangerous climate change is to drastically reduce emissions of greenhouse gases. Yet your policies unveiled during the 2007 election would actually see emissions increase. Unless new and more effective policies are introduced, Australia will be a hotter, drier and poorer place in the near future.
We call on you to act urgently to stop the expansion of the coal industry and to develop a plan to shut down Australia's coal-fired power plants. Starting with the oldest and most inefficient plants, you need to replace all coal-fired power plants with energy efficiency projects and clean, renewable energy."

And...Just to remind you that we'll be sending out an Election Newsflash next week with the responses we've received from the 7 House of Reps candidates for the seat of Sydney.

We thank you heartily for your continuing support and encourage you all to give us any input and feedback.....your participation helps to instigate the changes our planet needs.
Feel free to pass this on to your networks,

Yours sincerely,

the CCBR team
